The Vail Valley is home to nearby Mount of the Holy Cross which is one of Colorado's most unique 14,000 foot peaks. This stunning mountain is best viewed from the back bowls of the Vail Ski Resort. Mount of the Holy Cross contains a clearly distinguishable cross in the middle of it's summit.

Mt. of the Holy Cross
Elevation: 14,007 feet
Location: 7 miles southwest of Red Cliff and 15 miles southwest of Vail.
Nearby Towns: Beaver Creek, Minturn and Vail

Getting to the top typically requires a three day backpack trip. Allow for a one day hike to base camp. On day 2 you can summit with spectacular views of dozens of tarns and crystal clear lakes. Go back to base camp that evening and on the third day hike back out to the trailhead.
